Mission Statement:
– To improve the quality of life for locals by improving public spaces and introducing new land uses and services.
– To improve economic wealth in the are, not by gentrification, but by introducing industries which create employment for the local people. The industries focus around agriculture and aquaculture, using modern technology to make it more efficient for an urban environment. This reintroduces industrial land use back to the centre of Porto, creating a vibrant community for locals whilst diversifying and increasing tourism in the area. The aquaponics and agriculture can sustain human life as well as local ecology and acts as a catalyst of change within the area. It will support and be supported by the community around it, including a cookery school, market, hotel, and research centre, amongst others, with a distribution centre which allows the scheme to benefit a wider reach of people.
– To facilitate an exchange of knowledge by bringing people together from all educational backgrounds that blur the lines of tradition and innovation; young and old; scholar and labourer.
– To enable people to connect with the life of Porto; landscape, river, and culture. The existing communities will bring a level of authenticity which makes the waterfront area different from the adjacent Ribeira.
