St Hilda’s Church of England School

St. Hilda’s is a Church of England girls school with aspirations to become a co-educational establishment in 2015. The current facilities of the school are inadequate to accommodate for this future increase in population.

The current site of St. Hilda’s school is to be increased to include the adjacent Sefton Grange. This added area I have taken as the location for the new build school, as it is required that the current school be operational as the new facilities are being built. It was the most logical choice as there would be no need for a phasing strategy, minimising additional disruption on top of that caused by construction works. Access to the school will be restricted to Croxteth Drive, as this will help with security and safety, seeing as Ullet Road to the North is a major thoroughfare.

Adjacent to the school’s site is Holt House, a Grade 1 listed building. Consideration to this has been taken in the act of opening vistas for the house towards Sefton Park to the south.

The new St. Hilda’s school will be a visually exciting and welcoming building with a healthy internal environment, making the experience of the pupils and staff within one that they will look forward to experiencing day after day.
